We headed off this morning in some trepidation. A local had come across and
warned us that there had been a spate of attacks on campers, with the
occupants being gassed during the night and then being robbed as they lay
unconscious. It was the sort of thing that Anita and I had heard of when
travelling in Russia but we didn't expect to hear of such things in Sweden.
Still, we carried on and headed into the town of Lund, Sweden's oldest town.
Not much remains of its 13th century origins but it does have a pretty
impressive Romanesque church with a great astronomical clock. We spent some
time looking around the town and sneaking a look into the large open air
museum before hopping back in the car then heading south.
Next was a brief stop in the town of Trelleborg where they're recreating a
Viking fortress and surrounding village. It's only half built at the moment
so it was free to walk around but still pretty interesting.
From there we headed along the southern coast, past Sweden's most southerly
point, and towards the town of Ystad. We'd had a tip from a couple of campers
in Copenhagen that it had a good place to stop. We found the spot on the
waterfront and were a little disappointed since it looked over some
industrial silos and smelt pretty strange but then things looked up when I
discovered that we could get free showers at the block beside the marina.
Such little things are the joy of travelling.
