We arose slowly this morning, enjoying the warm weather. We were continuing
our trip around the Zealand island but first we wandered down to check out
the local beach. A quick touch of the water and a glance at the blue skies
convinced me that this was my only chance to try swimming in the Baltic. A
quick dash back to the van and I was on my way, convincing Neet to join me.
There was a convenient small jetty that ran for about twenty metres and took
you to where the water was all of one metre in depth. I plunged in but Anita
strangely remained behind. After five minutes of splashing around I decided
that that was enough of the Baltic.
Before we got moving I had to make a call to the insurers for the old van.
Seems things had stalled again as a cheque was supposed to have been sent and
nothing had been seen. When I called I found out that a review of my file
revealed that the cheque needed approval from a "senior colleague" before
being sent. That was obtained and apparently it's on its way. I checked my
records of this whole sorry saga and discovered that to date I've had to make
54 phone calls to keep things moving. Sheesh. It's been almost three months
since I first reported the fire. As far as we know the old van is still
sitting forlornly in its field waiting for the final verdict.
Back on the move, our next stop was the Viking fortress at Trelleborg. It's
the best preserved in Denmark but, as usual with these sites, only the
earthen ramparts remain. All the same it was quite evocative.
From there we headed back across the island towards Roskilde, the ancient
Danish capital and our destination for tomorrow.
