We started the day with an ascent of the hill to the small town of Avallon.
An attractive old town centre complete with town walls set on a hill in the
crook of a river. There wasn't anything in particular to see so we just
wandered about for a bit then returned down to the van.

We planned to spend the day ambling through the countryside and set off for
the even smaller town of Vezelay, again set on a hill top and crowned by a
huge cathedral that dominates the landscape for miles around. After again
strolling through the town and admiring the view from the cathedral grounds
we jumped back in the van and, eschewing a Michelin three star restaurant,
had lunch back down by the river. Anita and I had been here two years before
in the middle of winter, with snow blanketing the ground, so it was
interesting to see it in a different season.
We continued on towards the town of Dijon, passing a continuous panorama of
beautiful landscapes and picturesque towns. We eventually stopped in a
heavily wooded area, just beside a small stream. Magnifique!
